While I've been here in Wisconsin getting my mind and body back, I've been spending some time with two spiritual teachers (via lecture CDs that Kristin has shared with me). I have heard a lot of this sort of stuff, but these two I think are definitely worth mention. I mean, not that they particularly need me to mention them - they both seem to be doing quite well, but...
Stuart Wilde is a real character - someone who has a wonderful ability to be both very gentle when inviting you to move beyond your limitations, and hilariously caustic when ridiculing humanity for it's unwillingness to do so. He has a wonderful message about the feminine nature of god(des) - how only through surrender, service and letting go of status and accomplishment can we really have fulfilling lives...and he does all this without making it sound like the demise of the individual - something us westerners all seem terrified of.
I take it from some oblique references he makes that he's a fan of Ayahuasca, but he does not present any of his ideas as anything that require shamanistic beverages to fully appreciate or experience. Here's a link to an audio sample from his publisher's website. If you can keep your lunch down during the inspirational new age music at the beginning, you may enjoy it.
Carolyn Myss can kick your ass. I swear to god, there were two different occasions where I almost started yelling back at the CD player. Not because I disagreed with what she was saying, but because she was presenting it in such a strident, uncompromising way. As a medical intuitive, she is able to see how past attachments and a lack of forgiveness in one's life create disease. She also sounds like she has developed a healthy intolerance of people asking her how to change without any real intention of doing the necessary work. Who can blame her? link
As with all of this stuff, your milage may vary. There's obviously no perfect teacher, just the one who happens to have the message you're needing to hear at any given time. However, both of these people seem wonderfully willing to tell you that you're full of shit, and to do so in a way that is ultimately very loving.
